Permalinks, How to Change Default Permalinks Structure
Permalinks are the part of the web address. Ideally that should be your page or post name and point to specific posts and pages on your site. When used optimally they are great for search engines.
- Allowing your readers to get an understanding of what your post or page topic.
- Search engines discover the post or page topic solely from the URL Title and Description.
- They are unique for each piece of content you create.
The permalink structure can be setup in WordPress using the Settings > Permalinks(as above). The default WordPress is set to use the database identification number of each page or post as the permalink. This is not good for search engine results and pages structure and does not even hint of what your page is about.
Change the default permalink structure of WordPress a.s.a.p. There are several options to choose from, but the most common two choices are the structure that shows the date followed by the post name or simply the post name alone. This choice is usually made with the content in mind. If your website is about news, a the permalink containing the date followed by the name is the usual permalink structure.
