How to Manually Update WordPress to Latest Version
If restrictive file permissions are set on your site, you may have to upgrade your WordPress core manually. You may be other reasons for doing a manual update but either way it has to be done.

Upgrading WordPress Core Manually
- Alway create a full backup of your website including if possible a database backup. This is very important in case you make a mistake.
- Download the newest WordPress
- Unzip the file into a directory on your computer extract it but double clicking.
- Deactivate all of the plugins on your WordPress site.
- Go to your website root directory and delete your ‘wp-includes’ and ‘wp-admin’ directories.
- Upload the new wp-includes and wp-admin directories from the new freshly extracted version of WordPress, replace the directories you just deleted.
- Never delete your wp-content directory it contains themes, plugins and Uploads.

If you are upgrading manually after a failed auto-update, remove the .maintenance file from your WordPress root directory. To do this navigate to root force showing hidden files
- Visit your main WordPress page at /wp-admin/. Go to the plugins folder, where you can bulk activate and individually activate your plugins.
- Your upgrade is now complete and you should be running the newest version of WordPress.
